How it works
The Pokémon you sacrifice must have as many Stars as the one you upgrade. To give a 2-Star Pokémon its 3rd Star you need another 2-Star one, which came from two 1-Star ones, each made from two 0-Star ones. So every Star doubles the Pokémon you need: 0 to 5 Stars takes 31 Pokémon besides the main one, and the total includes every secondary’s ascensions too.
