Dungeons

(Arcane Shards)

Dungeons (also called DZ or Shiny Dens) are solo instances you open with an Arcane Shard. Each shard opens the Den of one specific Shiny Pokémon, and its rarity sets the difficulty. Inside, you clear several stages until you reach the boss and, at the end, you get XP and items. They are the main source of Fragments, the material for Boost Boost Stones.

Key: Arcane Shard

Usual level: Easy 50 · Medium 100 · Hard 200

Solo, usually up to 60 min

No Hazard

How it works

Every key has the same name, Arcane Shard: what changes is its description, which says which Den it opens and its rarity. The rarity sets the difficulty, and each difficulty usually has a minimum level:

Rarity, difficulty and level
Shard rarityDifficultyUsual level
CommonEasy50
RareMedium100
Ultra RareHard200

For example, a shard that reads «Use it to access the mysterious Shiny Totodile’s Den. Rarity: common.» opens the Shiny Totodile Den on Easy, which usually needs level 50.

Note: Some Dens have their own values: what the portal’s panel shows is what counts.

How to enter

  1. Check your Arcane Shard’s description to see which Den it opens.

  2. Go to that family’s portal. On the full map, turn on «Show Dungeon Icons»: each portal shows up with its type icon and, when you hover over it, you see its name and its bosses.

  3. Open the portal panel. Each portal belongs to one family: its name and picture are at the top, and below them you pick Easy, Medium or Hard. Each difficulty shows its «Minimum Level», the number of players, the shard it needs («Required Items») and the rewards («Available Rewards»). Hover over a reward to see how many you can get.

  4. Press «Start». The shard is used up, your Pokémon is healed and you enter an instance of your own.

Inside the Dungeon

  • Defeat the Pokémon of each stage until you reach the boss.

  • Many have a 60-minute time limit.

  • When you clear it you get the XP and the items, in your inventory or your Stash, and the instance closes.

  • Hazard does not apply inside.

Note: Do not mix them up with Mega Dens: those are opened with a sealed Mega Stone and are full of Mega Pokémon, not Shiny Pokémon.

Shard Boxes

There are two kinds of Shard Box. The regular Shard Box can give you the shard of a random Den, of any rarity. The type boxes (one for each of the 18 types) give you the shard of a random Den of that type, never of a Legendary or higher-tier Pokémon. The type boxes are sold in the Diamond Store, Shards category, in packs of 10 for 6 Diamonds.

Shard Boxes by type (Diamond Store pack)

Arcane Shards are also bought and sold on the Market.

What they are for

Dungeons are the main source of each type’s Fragments: a Machop family Dungeon, for example, helps you get Fighting Fragments. Fragments are used to make Boost Boost Stones.

Arcane Shards are also spent in Poké Expeditions, where you use them to send a Pokémon exploring while you play or are offline.

Probopass Dungeon

The Probopass Dungeon, in the Trade Center, does not use an Arcane Shard: you enter it with a 10k Dungeon Scroll. Completing it 10 times gives the Pharaoh’s Conqueror achievement in Achievements.
