Kanto GYMs

Each of the 8 Kanto GYMs gives you a badge. Each badge is the main material for a Cooldown talent, which cuts 1 second off the move cooldowns of the Pokémon stored in your bag. With all 8 that is 8 seconds less, which makes a difference when you rotate Pokémon in Hoenn hunts.

Dungeon: level 200, 10 min

Battles: level 250, Pokéview

8 badges: −8 s cooldown

How to complete a GYM

Each GYM has three stages, and they have to be done in order:

  1. Alfred’s Task: talk to Alfred, who stands at the GYM entrance, and accept his Task. It asks you to defeat 10 each of two different Shiny Pokémon (20 in total; see the table below). Then talk to him again to hand it in.

    Alfred
  2. Hidden Dungeon: go in through the entrance Alfred points you to. It needs level 200, you enter alone, you have 10 minutes and you cannot use Revive. If you lose or time runs out, the attempt ends and retrying costs 250,000 Pokédollars. Dying inside counts as a normal death: you lose experience like any other. Once you complete it, talk to Alfred again.

    • +3,000,000 XP
  3. GYM battles: from level 250, in Pokéview and with up to 6 Pokémon. Beat the trainers first and then the leader. Your first win against the leader gives you their badge and Orbs of their type. Losing costs Orbs: 1 Simple Orb of the GYM’s type against a trainer and 3 against the leader.

Note: The Bubble Gum from the Task raises the chance of Shiny Pokémon appearing by 100% for 1 hour.

The 8 GYMs

With Teleport you reach each city with the command in the Teleport column, as long as you have already talked to the Nurse in its Pokémon Center.

Each leader’s team

These are the 6 Pokémon each leader uses against you in Pokéview. Build your team with a type advantage against them.

Badges and Cooldown talents

Each badge is the main material for one of the 8 Cooldown talents in Talents. Each talent makes the moves of the Pokémon stored in your bag, inside their Poké Balls, recharge 1 second sooner. It applies to all of them, not only those of the leader’s type. You do not need all 8: each talent works on its own and they stack; with the Boulder and Cascade ones, for example, your Pokémon already recharge 2 seconds sooner.

  1. Open the Talents panel and find the Cooldown group.

  2. Pick your badge’s stage and check the materials it asks for.

  3. Hand in the materials. The panel takes them from your inventory and your Depot Stash.

Note: The badge and the other materials are used up for good when you complete the talent.
