Fly, Surf and Ride

Fly, Surf and Ride are the travel abilities of some Pokémon: Fly lets you fly, Surf takes you across water and Ride lets you ride over land. Each Pokémon has its own speed for each one, so picking the right mount saves you time on every trip.

Fly: speed 500–1000

Surf: speed 350–800

Ride: speed 350–650

Y-Wing: up to +370 while flying

How to start them

Fly and Ride

  1. Step 1:

Send out a Pokémon with Fly or Ride.

  2. Step 2:

Point at your own character and press Order: the Q key or the middle mouse button (with chat on, only the middle button).

  3. Step 3:

If you are somewhere flying or riding is allowed, you take off or mount up.

Shortcut: Hotkeys has an «Order on Yourself» action with no default key. Bind one and you can use Order on yourself without aiming with the mouse.

Surf

Send out a Pokémon with Surf and walk into the water: if Surf is allowed on that water, you start surfing automatically.

Note: you cannot start flying, surfing or riding during combat, or while the Pokémon is in a PokéView battle.

Going up and down while flying

  • Type !up or !h1 to go up one floor, and !down or !h2 to go down.

  • Or use the PageUp and PageDown keys: they are the Fly Up and Fly Down actions in Hotkeys.

  • There are also two on-screen buttons, above and below your character. If they get in the way, turn off «Show Fly Up/Down buttons while flying» in the options.

  • All of this only works while you are flying, and only where flying is allowed.

Speed

Each Pokémon has a base speed for each travel ability it has. That number is not SQM per second, nor is it the Pokémon’s speed in the wild: it only lets you compare Pokémon with the same ability. A Fly of 800 is faster than a Fly of 500, but a Fly of 800 and a Ride of 650 cannot be compared.

The normal, Shiny and Mega forms can have different speeds, and the Shiny is often the fastest: Dragonite flies at 700 and Shiny Dragonite at 1000.

What changes it

  • Fly, Surf or Ride speed bonuses from the Medal System.

  • Your character’s general speed bonuses.

  • The Y-Wing Held, which adds speed only while you are flying.

  • A transformed Ditto uses the speed of the form it copied.

  • While Auto Mega is on, the Mega form’s speed applies.

These are the Medals that affect mount speed. Each Medal gives a bonus and lowers another stat until it reaches its top rank: the Pidgeot one, for example, raises your Fly Speed and lowers your Surf Speed. How much each one adds depends on its rank.

Your level does not change your mount’s speed, but your bonuses do: two players on the same Pokémon can travel at different speeds. Example: a Dragonite (Fly 700) with a Y-Wing T4 (+225) flies at 925, plus whatever your bonuses add.

Y-Wing: speed it adds while flying

  • +100
  • +145
  • +185
  • +225
  • +270
  • +310
  • +370
